Canggu Builders

Construction workers in Bali live on site during the whole project — sometimes with their entire family. Most Balinese consider a commute of more than an hour an heresy, let alone two when crossing the island coast-to-coast. But in Canggu, a place filled with surfers, digital nomads and leisure tourists, there is no real estate reserved for the builders. Their habitat is the first thing they build: makeshift plywood houses are the most common.
